Staff & Star the Yeti Read to 1,300 Students

North Star Credit Union Reads to More than 1,500 Kids!

In celebration of I Love to Read Month, North Star Credit Union (NSCU) brought stories to life in schools across the region with the help of staff and a special guest, Star the Yeti.

Throughout February, the team visited classrooms, engaging students by reading and building excitement around books including Star’s newest book, Yeti’s Journey: Guided by the North Star. The initiative continues to be a meaningful way for NSCU to connect with local schools and support young readers.

This year, nine staff members visited seven locations over seven days, reaching 1,309 students in 69 classrooms. Altogether, the team completed 31 reading sessions, sharing 10 hours and 20 minutes of reading time with students.

“We look forward to this every year because it gives us a chance to connect with students in a fun and meaningful way,” said Jennifer Stedt, NSCU CEO. “Reading together opens the door to conversation, creativity and confidence, and that’s something we’re proud to support in our communities.”

The outreach continues to grow as partnerships with local schools strengthen and participation expands.

“It’s amazing to see how quickly students engage with the stories,” said Rachel Indihar of NSCU, who organizes the program. “Whether they’re laughing, asking questions or making connections, those moments remind us why this program matters so much.”

Star the Yeti remains a favorite among students, with two of her books featured during classroom visits in years past. The first two books are currently available, and the newest book will be available this spring
