On Monday, Oct. 9, North Star Credit Union is joining thousands of volunteers from across the state to give back and spread kindness in their community.

Staff members from North Star Credit Union (NSCU) will spend time on CU Forward Day, which is on Oct. 9 volunteering at United Way of Northeastern Minnesota’s Buddy Backpack program.  

They will join other regional credit unions packing backpacks filled with nutritious, nonperishable, child-friendly food items to children who are at-risk of going hungry over the weekends.

“Volunteering on CU Forward Day is important to our credit union staff,” said Jennifer Stedt, CEO of NSCU. “Knowing that we can make a difference in the community and spread kindness means a lot to us.”

CU Forward day is coordinated by the Minnesota Credit Union Network, the state trade association for Minnesota’s credit unions. NSCU staff want to show community members how much they matter throughout the month by boosting spirits and bringing cheer, which is the theme for our credit union. 

Star the Yeti, NSCU’s mascot, along with other staff will be visiting a local long-term care facility and bringing their residents handcrafted stained-glass stars including patriotic stars for the veterans.

A local photographer, Emily Law of Flom Design and Photography, in Hibbing asked if she could also give to the residents and will be donating her “Choose Happy” bracelets to wear.

Another nonprofit, You Matter Bags, has provided backpacks for NSCU staff to fill with supplies for area elementary students in need.

There will also be an additional nonprofit recipient of a donation of $1,000 by NSCU that is being voted on by NSCU staff for causes that are the most meaningful to them.
