Credit Union Celebrates 85 Years!
The North Star Credit Union hosted its annual meeting in September taking time that week to also celebrate our members.
CEO Jennifer Stedt opened the meeting with an opportunity to reflect on 85 years as a credit union.
“I am thankful to our members for all the support they have provided the credit union throughout the years,” said Stedt. “With the support, we have continued to grow to better serve our communities.”
The credit union started in 1939 as Northern Farmer’s Co-op Credit Union, sponsored by the Northern Farmer’s Co-op Society in downtown Cook.
The Credit Union was based out of the Co-op Store in Cook until it burned down in October 1994.
After operating out of the BIC building for some time, the Credit Union was able to relocate in January 1996 to Main Street, where it currently stands.
NSCU now has four branches including in Cook, Duluth, Mountain Iron, and Nashwauk.
At the meeting officers were selected as follows:
- Chair: Lara Whiteside
- Vice Chair: Vicki Schelde
- Secretary: Jon Korpi
- Director: Jodie Pierce
- Director: Josh Svedberg
- Director: Marge Rinne
The supervisory committee includes Jody Refsdal, Bob Champa, and Deanne Howard.
During the meeting we also heard from LSS Financial Counseling about the six free & confidential sessions that members receive annually.
A representative from TruLync Medical Advisors provided an overview on the free informational sessions they are hosting for members.
The event also featured food purchased from Zup’s, and T Pattenn Café, kid’s prizes and games, and photos with Star the Yeti.
“We appreciate all of those who attended the meeting,” said Stedt. “It was a wonderful opportunity to extend our appreciation to the community, staff, board, supervisory committee, and members for the continued support.”
