North Star Credit Union is proud to announce that River Galloway has won a $1,000 Scholarship from the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation Scholarship Council (FSC). A total of $18,000 was awarded to 18 credit union members in Minnesota for the 2025-2026 school year.
“We are proud that River was chosen as the scholarship recipient,” said Christie Kainwo, Regional Branch Manager. “This is a great accomplishment.”
Nearly 1,000 students from credit unions throughout the state applied for scholarships. Applicants were selected based on their essays submitted to the FSC. This year’s essay question was: “Discuss a significant personal experience that has shaped who you are today. How has this experience influenced your educational and career aspirations? What lessons have you learned, and how do you apply them in your daily life?
Galloway wrote “Through my work in Teen Council, I have fueled my passion for advocacy. I plan to bring the skills I have learned about harm reduction and the importance of communication and action in public health settings. I want to provide people in any community I join with the information and resources I’ve gained so that they can make healthier, more informed choices. Bringing more opportunities for open dialogue to create a more informed and safer world.”
Scholarships were given away to students in two categories: Traditional and Non-Traditional. North Star Credit Union has been a long-time supporter of the FSC Scholarship program.
North Star Credit Union has branches in Cook, Mountain Iron, Duluth, and Nashwauk
