Debit Card Fraud on the Rise

Debit Card Fraud is on the Rise

Financial institutions across the country have seen an increase in fraud.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, financial fraud increased by over 30 percent from 2021 to 2022, with total losses surpassing $8.8 billion.

North Star Credit Union (NSCU) has seen a rise in debit card fraud.

NSCU realizes our members are still cautious about answering calls from unknown numbers or if the caller is asking about anything financial related.

When the NSCU fraud detection program calls members, the caller will say they are calling from Fiserv on behalf of NSCU regarding transaction research.

Members will be asked about transactions and possibly the last digits of their debit card.

They will not be asked about personal details or account details.
Members are reminded to not give out their social security number, date of birth, or account numbers.

If the person calling is asking for that information, then the call is most likely NOT to connected to NSCU.

Call any NSCU branch if there are any concerns about the validity of a call.
