North Star Credit Union Student Programs

Student Programs Timeline

Our Partnership with ISD 2142

North Star staff volunteer to educate students in grades K-12 on financial topics such as how to balance a checkbook, budgeting, investing and interest, and the importance of saving.

Family Fun Night

North Star hosts an annual event providing interactive educational activities for elementary students and their families. Students are challenged to categorize their “wants” vs. “needs”, see how quickly debt can add up, and fun ways to save.

North Woods Student Branch

The student-led credit union branch at North Woods is named “The Money Cave”, and is open on Thursdays from 8:00am-12:00pm. Student workers assist their peers and school faculty with financial transactions such as making deposits, withdrawals, and checking account balances. During Thursday lunch hours, students work with our Financial Education Director to develop savings promotions and marketing plans to encourage savings at all ages. When the branch is closed, there is an ATM located in the multi-purpose space for easy account access.

South Ridge Student Branch

The student-led branch at South Ridge is named “The Jungle”, and is open on Wednesdays from 8:00am-12:00pm. Student workers assist their peers and school faculty with financial transactions such as making deposits, withdrawals, and checking account balances. During Thursday lunch hours, students work with our Financial Education Director to develop savings promotions and marketing plans to encourage savings at all ages.

Lunch and Learn Sessions

Lunch and Learn sessions are open to all senior high students at North Woods and South Ridge Schools once per month. North Star staff and area professionals join students during their lunch hour to discuss financial topics including job hunting, building credit, finding an apartment, taking out a loan, saving, investing, budgeting, and other topics chosen by the students.

Looking to the Future

North Star will continue to work towards enabling all the students to keep more money that they have earned by teaching them how to make wise and informed financial decisions while educating, motivating, and empowering them to become regular savers. The future of our communities and our country will be in the hands of today’s students.  At North Star Credit Union, we believe we should do everything in our power to help them succeed.

We want to thank the school’s administration and staff for partnering with us by allowing us to have these programs in the schools.
